Bad Joke of the Day!

What's green and has wheels???

Grass, I was just kidding about the wheels.

Heeeee heeeee heeee heeeee!

Greetings one and all!!

Sorry I have been out of touch.  Worked some weird hours last week and it takes awhile for the now weary bones to realize I'm not 20 anymore and can't just jump up and do anymore. I'm not anywhere close to 61 at least!

Am off today and tomorrow, so it's catch up time. Laundry on line, bills paid, house relatively picked up. As for the drop in guests vs. the invited...anyone's welcome anytime. If you stop in unannounced, be prepared for dishes in the sink (if Sean made it that far with his), overflowing ashtrays, the occasional piece of clothing left where it was taken off. If you're fine with it, sit and visit.  If you're not, either leave or clean. That said, my house is done and I'm fine with it.

Sean is still working on the yet unnamed car. She had quite a few over the weekend as he tried to take the starter out to clean it and she tried to squish him like a bug, but they are by all means not well spoken in mixed company. Starter is out, cleaned and back in.  Today he buys a battery.  After that, I have no idea.  I tell him we can sell it for scrap, we don't have that much money in it, lots of blood and tears equity (his) but could get our money back if he doesn't think it'll move forward with what he's done so far.  I hate hearing the frustration in his voice and I can't do anything about it. I think he would see it as admitting defeat and that he failed and yet another project that he didn't complete. He's too hard on himself. Even if you don't complete something, yet you tried, is good. Do you not agree? So I don't know where the car stands as of right now other than parked downstairs. I am so proud of everything he's done so far.

Speaking of being proud, love the slot car! I am amazed and love all the wonderful things people said about it. I definitely want to see pictures when it's complete.

Nothing much going on here. I'm making some quilt blocks for a fair we're having at work.  The idea is for people to make a donation and they can sign the block in memory of to raise money for Alzheimer's. Only have a limited amount of time and tonight we're going picnicking with some people Sean does a lot of work for at Look Rock (where we went when you were here Jess) so I best get to ironing and cutting fabric and hopefully I'll get my blocks sewn tomorrow. It's a super easy design so it should be no problem.

Love to all, will write again soon!

Cousin

Hey Jess, I'm pretty sure I told you that Brenda the Perfect gave birth March 14 to your cousin Samuel Paul. He was two weeks early which the entire K-conspiracy calls "premature"...any OBGYN calls it the two week window.

The "child" was 20 1/2" and 5#9oz. He's 5 months old and weighs less than 10#. No pictures were offered while we endured the "visit." They said there were pix but they forgot to bring them.

Paul's nearly 48 and Brenda's ten years younger. Thirty years ago a child like this would be declared a "failure to thrive" and most likely there would be a medical reason for the problem. Of course, your "grandfather" doesn't have much to say...as you pointed out, it's his first. Ferd and Kirk mention, of course, that cereal and food isn't recommended until the kid is six months old. Gosh, Jess, you didn't get either of those items until the day you turned six months old. And you know THAT story! You certainly weren't overweight (thin, even) but probably 15 pounds heavier than THIS kid, and that was on formula, just like the kid has been fed. He's only one week away from being six months old. Obviously there's something not right about the K bloodline.

Only here tonight because I didn't address your questions about the kid. Paul's been unemployed for 15 months. Brenda's working at something, I don't know what. Do'ya think maybe Ferd's eggs have been planted in the wrong baskets? Well, he certainly sucked as much life as he was able out of your Dad's baby eggs. Feeling more and more confident about kharma. If you could see him with Kirk you'd feel some real vindication. There seems to be a price tag on marrying for money.

Dad's in the tub downstairs. Signing off so that I'll be available for conversation when he emerges. Loads of love.

WHERE'S LORI?????

Miss you Lorinda! Ma

Even more good news

Dad just left to get the remaining four or five windows. There are over 40 windows here...enough to build our greenhouse. This is so exciting. Great things don't happen to us, EVER! The windows were FREEEEE!

And guess what else? I'm entering the fourth juried art exhibit/competition through the Crystal Lake Art Center in Frankfort. First prize is $1,000, second is $500 and there are other assorted awards totaling another $500. Even 'tho the competition is open to Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau and Manistee counties, I have a good feeling about doing this. Gonna go ask Susie Vigland which of the new pieces she recommends entering. I can enter two pieces.

Jess and Tommy, if you could get here on Friday night (that would be someone's 61st birthday...YIKES!) I would be the happiest camper in all of the North country.

I'll see if Dad can scan our flyer and send it to you. He's my photo guru (and pretty successful best friend too). The last two nights when we were finally alone, with our cigarettes and peace we'd whisper to eachother, questioning how well we each thought we'd pulled that day off. We did damned well, considering I'd rather have hosted George W. than the guests we had.

Congrats on the hair kid. I found someone good AND cheap four miles from home. Time to go see her again.

Got to go measure the windows and see how many of which size we have. The graph paper is already out.

Love, love and more of the same, Ma

Ah, freedom

So glad to hear you guys made it. Maybe you can motor on down to Florida some day and see them? How's the new grand kid. Oh, sorry THE grand kid. Is it born yet? Did you see pictures? How very exciting.

If you send me a flyer or two, I'll post them at work. Not sure if anyone's looking, but surprisingly enough, I work with a few guys who hunt AND have money as well as a ton of people who love the good old up north atmosphere. It's worth trying anyway! Plus, I'd love to see them!

I'm pretty sure I'll get Sept. 20th off, so Tom and I could head up on Friday night after work and probably spend the last few nanoseconds of your actual birthday with you. Possibly we could arrange a second celebration on Saturday when the sun is out? Have to head home on Sunday afternoon-ish, but at least we'd get a couple of days in together. As for your gift.... you may be pleasantly surprised mother of mine... just you wait! Let me know if that weekend would work... umm, actually it may have to as it's a bit like pulling teeth to get time off anymore... we have never been this understaffed or this busy in the eight years I've been there. Bush has no idea what this economy is doing to people and their pets. Or our delightful governor, who needs a swift kick in the ass. Can I say that in a public forum without ending up on some FBI most wanted list?

I have nothing more to add.... life is boring and predictable here in gold old South Lyon. One thing of note... I woke up this morning and could simply no longer deal with the fuzz growing out of my head and got it cut at Scappare in town. Why have I driven past that place so many times in my life and not once considered getting my hair cut there? It was affordable and the girl who cut my hair was neither frightened or put off by my crazy hair! And... will wonders never cease... she felt no need to rake a flat iron to it! Yay! Cheers to hairdressers everywhere who let people with curly hair walk out of their salon with curly hair!

Love to all of those people out there! JEss

WE SURVIVED!!!!

It's Wednesday and we MADE it!! Don't think that'll have to happen again. Other than rumblings about us going THERE, all we have to do now is remain creative in the excuse department. Real life begins again.

As for the property, Jess. Dad and I made a flier that's pretty terrific, filled with photos of little house and land. Find some close friend with $59,000 and it's theirs...one helluva lot less than one of those monster motor homes (about $40,000 less). Dad left for little house about 20 minutes ago to cut the grass again. He has a downed tree to cut up and I have the red pine debris pile from hell to burn, but otherwise (oh yeah. The bathroom ceiling too) we're in good shape for when the place goes back on the market for the fourth year next spring.

We've got our project out front to work on next week and more crabgrass to dig so I can plant the perennials ASAP to establish their roots before frost. All things considered we're feeling much better about life in general. There's that pesky problem of school starting very soon, but I'm busy lining up ways to create potential income during the dark, gloomy winter. We'll make it just fine.

Got to get offline 'cause Sharon McKinley is taking me into town to pick up umpteen ancient wood-framed windows from a local guy remodeling his house. Don't know just what we'll do with them but we really jumped on it when they were offered to us.

More later. Love all of you tons. Ma

A wish for strength

Helloooo all. To may parents, I wish you strength in this time of trouble. May your visit with FERD go quickly and painlessly. I was just explaining Fred to Tommy the other night and we were discussing how much I hope I never have to see him again. Lucky for me, I'm pretty sure he feels the same way. Well, he would have to dig back into the inner workings of his mind to first remember that he had a granddaughter once upon a time to remember that he hasn't seen her in over ten years. Anyway, I hope it goes smoothly and swiftly.

Dad, very cute posting the pictures of the turkeys. I love to eat them in the form of dogs and tacos. I love to eat them in the form of bologna and sausages. They are ugly, horrible little beasts and I will eat them as long as Jenny O continues to turn them into beef alternatives. Thank you very much, gobbler man.

All vehicles have been removed from lawn and Tom made a sweep of the area to pick up any remnants. If it weren't for the lawn job we would have no evidence of the night's excitement. Even that's not so bad. The damage to Randy's fence is also completely unnoticeable unless you had seen the car smooshed up next to it. I'll get more details at work tomorrow as one of the paramedics was a guy I work with. He works all night as an EMT and then goes to the shelter for more abuse... now there's a brave, hard working individual. Also has some anger problems but we can forgive him that if we must.

I think it's going to rain today. Yay! The grass is dead, my plants are barely hanging on and it's about two hundred degrees out. But the sky is dark and it smells like a storm is brewing so I've got my fingers crossed and would welcome it with open arms even if the power goes out.

Love to everyone out there in cyber space. I hope everyone is enjoying the summer before it goes away. By the way, Little House looks great! I wish Tom and I had the money to buy it, even if to keep it as our own private get away. Belongs in the Shellhaas family, ya know? Ma, you'd be proud of me. I gave myself a haircut and it's mostly straight. Go team!

Love y'all! Jess
